ANAT has been working closely with South Australian, national and international partners on initiatives that support the development of creative applications for mobile and wireless devices, stemming from the 2005 Mobile Journeys initiative and electrofringe events in 2003.

miniSeries: episodic adventures for mobile phones

ANAT is a partner for a production initiative in association with South Australian Film Corporation, ABC New Media and Digital Services and m.Net. Through a Production Accord, four teams of filmmakers, animators, new media artists and digital media practitioners applied for a $15,000 fund to create an ‘episodic’ digital media project for mobile phones.

Following a highly competitive call for proposals in December 2004, an industry jury selected the teams. Comprised of three animations and one live-action project, the teams undertook an intensive masterclass between February 15 - 17 2005 lead by the-phone-book Limited (UK). Following a production phase to create their miniseries, the finished works are available for mobile phones via the ABC website, www.miniseries.com.au.

Successful teams:
THE PERILS OF FLOSSY
Ali Ashdown (Producer/Writer) and David Ngo (Developer)

MUSICA FANTASTICA
Mike Cowap (Producer) and Dylan Henderson (Director)

MELISSA MURPHY’S HOLIDAY FROM HELL
Holly Owen (Producer/Writer) and Jo Kerlogue (Designer)

STANLEY AND DEAN
Daryl Watson (Producer) and Hugh Sullivan (Writer/Director)

miniCinema: mobile phone-booth film showcase

In February 2005, ANAT co-ordinated an exhibition and workshop program for the Adelaide Film Festival. The miniCinema - Australia’s first mobile phone booth cinema - provided interactive viewing spaces for audiences to watch movies made for mobile phones. Dooeun Choi from Art Centre Nabi (Korea) and Fee Plumley from the-phone-book Limited (UK) curated two programs of international short films especially for miniCinema.

A public workshop program with the UK creative duo the-phone-book Limited also revealed the hands-on creative possibilities of mobile phones to artists, filmmakers, young adults and festival patrons.

The partners in the miniSeries project are ANAT, m.Net Corporation, SA Film Corporation, ABC New Media and Digital Services, Adelaide Film Festival and DFEEST (Dept of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology).
