ARTRAGE is one of the most dynamic production companies and support mechanisms for contemporary culture in Western Australia.
Founded in 1983 as the Festival Fringe Society of Perth Inc., the organisation has developed and evolved over- time, and with the times.
In addition to producing popular festivals such as the annual ARTRAGE and Northbridge Festivals, we manage other special projects, commissions and events over the year such as the annual Semi-Permanent Perth conference and the NYE Northbridge Program as well as run our own year-round venue on James Street in Northbridge.
The Bakery Artrage Complex houses the Breadbox Gallery and the Blackbox Performance Studio. They sit either side of our bar and gig space, and the venue also has a novel outdoor courtyard constructed from stacked seacontainer offices housing both ARTRAGE management as well as a trapeze rig out the back.
In 2007 after four years developing the venue from scratch through an award winning partnership with Western Power, the venue now pumps non-stop. It has become the venue of choice for major international and national touring acts, alongside the freshest and the latest of local line-up talent. The Bakery is also home to programs from other Perth festivals and organisations. In the past this has included the Revelation International Film, Totally Huge New Music, Pride, Awesome, WAMI, City of Perth Winter Arts, FotoFreo and Perth Fashion Festivals as well as the Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth (BEAP).
